A beer brewed in the midlands has been named the best in the world. Based in Shropshire, Salopian Brewery’s ‘Paper Planes’ has taken the crown. A New England IPA, it is hopped with Citra, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin for its unique taste.

The International Beer Challenge (IBC) presented the beer with the award as the Supreme Champion in the event. Entries came from 39 countries, with Paper Planes being one of 850 beers in the competition.

Chairman of the IBC, Jeff Evans, said “We have some of the shrewdest beer judges in the land – retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts. The judging process is rigorous, unrivalled and our approach is much respected among our panel of judges.” He continues, “The judges were hugely impressed, as always, with the quality of the beers that reached the gold standard. Choosing the Supreme Champion beer was not an easy thing to do”

Manager of the Salopian Brewery, Wilf Nelson was elated at the award. He thanked the dedicated and hard work of his team at the brewery, adding to his excitement at winning the prestigious trophy. The judges were blown away by the beer’s ‘enticing nose, complexity of flavours and blanked, bitter finish’.

Evans congratulated the Brewery, calling them deserving winners of the Supreme Champion award.
